Why We Should Appreciate Winter

1. When the sun reflects off the snow, the world looks so bright and happy.
2. Winter is the bug-free season.
3. And it’s curling season!
4. Spotting animals tracks in the snow opens your eyes to secret mammal lifestyles you wouldn’t otherwise know about.
5. Winter makes summer that much sweeter.
6. There’s no grass to cut.
7. Christmas!
8. Hanging out by the woodstove.
9. Snowshoeing. (OK. I’ve never actually done it. But I hear good things!)
10. Looking outside your window, watching snow fall, and feeling warm and happy at home.
On days like today, winter is my friend (unlike yesterday).

Snowshoes! I sense your resistance crumbling, and accordingly will notch up the volume on my nagging. Snowshoes! Got to have them in this country! GOT to! Snowshoes! How else will you enjoy your property, when most of it is inaccessible under 4ft drifts? Snowshoes! How else do you give the coyotes and bunnies fair warning of your approach, but for the sound of your Snowshoes(!) slapping on the trail? Snowshoes! The way I see it, you’ve GOT to either (1) take up Andy Collier on his offer, or (2) take me up on my identical offer. Snowshoes!

We got our snowshoes in the mail last week and have been having a great time with them. Seriously, if you live in a place that has this much snow, it’s an investment! And great exercise too. Burns lots of calories so you can go home and have hot chocolate without feeling guilty at all.
I have been walking all winter in the back fields, but in the last few weeks the snow has accumulated to the point of making my walks impossible. My snowshoes just solved that problem! Now I have no excuse….

Wish I could send you some of our wonderful weather here in Arkansas.
Sun was shining brightly and was pushing into the high 60’s.
Love it but do miss the Iowa snows.
I agree with the others, you must get snowshoes.

I know, you snowshoe people are starting to wear down my snowshoe-defenses. I should start a snowshoe fund. :)
Yes, it was my birthday on February 17th! It was a good day. We had the eco-energy inspectors come by to check out our renovation progress that morning, then I did a ton of work (we’re insanely busy, which is a good thing!). We intended to go out for dinner, but then somehow the day got away from us. We whipped into Subway, and then went curling in the evening. We did go out for an impromptu belated birthday dinner the next night though; we went to one of the two restaurants in our town that were open. :)
Thanks for the birthday wishes all! I’m drinking a hot chocolate to toast you all–no guilt, even though I didn’t snowshoe. :)
Oh dear, I shouldn’t end every paragraph with a happy face. That’s just too much, isn’t it?

Btw, SNOWSHOES ROCK! I go almost every day with the dogs. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to walk in the woodlot or on most of our land for half the year! Rent some and try them out if you must, but do it. SNOWSHOE! SNOWSHOE!!! :)
The hubby and I bought headlamps because we plan to go snowshoeing at night. I’m looking forward to that!
Go have some cocoa.
