wow, everybody, take heed, and click on Laura-Jane’s link, “our roof during a rainy season” that gets you to her poetic Ode of September 2008, lovingly dedicated to her rotten-and-then renewed roof. It is an amazing poem. Doubly interesting to read now in 2010, because I intuit that Laura-Jane and Cam didn’t realize back in 2008 that a new foundation was going to manifest too!

    Bravo Laura-Jane and Cam.

Ah, the rain… and the red mud. My heart goes out to you and I can totally envision the mess you are dealing with. I know PEI mud … the red stuff and we are getting all this damp mess of weather over here in NB as well.

Better days are coming. Might be a week or two but forecasts are calling for hot and dry days for summer. Soon, this will be all but a memory and you’ll be reaping the rewards of a job well done.

Batten down the hatches!! Pack your bags!! Bring your bathing suit & spring clothing. Not summer here but we have a pool in the hotel room. Can’t wait to see you!!

Ah yes – the lovely red mud of our little Island. I always get a kick out of the “PEI Dirt Shirts”, remembering how hard our mothers worked when we were kids to scrub the red mud OUT of our shirts . . .

You could leave it dug up like that and have ramparts and a moat! Looks cool to me!

My husband and I have been coming to the island now for 10 years. We are CFA seasonal dwellers living in Malpeque for about 6 months and then back to Colorado for the winter. We are both originally from Ontario. I must say this is the first time I have found and read your blog (entirely in one sitting to this point) and I have so enjoyed it. My husband and I were lucky enough to retire at a young age and now we are doing what we want and I find it amazing that you and Cam found this amazing island as we did. We too lived the hectic and crazy life for 20 years and walked away from it all for simplicity.I now plant a huge garden in the summer, canning everything for the winter and I also make my own wine. I am also a luthier (I will let you figure that one out) as a hobby. I also play an acoustic/classical stringed instrument every moment I get. I love to practice – it is my passion. I am very much like your mother in this regard.
One thing that I must say is Gary Gray is a kind and gentle man and l so enjoy his comments.
Keep up the good work! Keep on bloggin! Stop by if you are every in Malpeque. I would be happy to give you some garden pointers.
    Cheers!

Laura: I love your blog. I always enjoy checking in to see what you and Cameron are up to.

But you haven’t posted anything since June 3rd. Are you guys okay? I’m getting a bit antsy waiting for your next post. And curious to see how your house looks now?
