The Pumpkin Patch: A Lesson in Squash
Posted on 23. Oct, 2008 by Laura-Jane - Whimfield in Outdoors, Prince Edward Island
Pumpkin fields dot the landscape on Prince Edward Island.
It being near the end of October, we finally succumbed to the orange temptation. We pulled over to a you-pick/we pick pumpkin patch.
We already had a giant pumpkin on our stoop at home–a gift bestowed to us from two very special loved ones.
So we passed right by the pumpkins and made a bee-line to this marvelous spread of small squashes.
I was on a quest to select the most divine and intriguing of squashes. Here I am, getting serious.
After much discussion and inspection, we scooped up two little autumn wings and called them our own.
These little guys are incredible. Every one is different. Kind of like you and I and everybody else!

Beautiful pictures! I love pumpkin patches. Haven’t been this year yet… might not make it either! Thanks for letting me look at your visit.

Cam, reminds me of Ontario, the excitement I felt coming across the pumpkin fields. Do you remember them?

Pumpkin patches and little gourds are so loveable, and so dear to my heart. I too stop at Pumpkin Patches whenever possible, and gaze in wonder. These photos of yours are exquisite! …How sweet, that red ‘pay here’ receptacle, and the perfection of the cut-out semi-circles denoting the four sizes, so one knows how much to pay. And you, Laura-Jane look so piquantly charming! I love the photo with the two little ‘autumn wings’ and you mysteriously shown with just the lower half of your face in the photo!
PS Your sister Nadine has a Pumpkin Picture in her Facebook photos collection this season, too!!
PPS The world’s largest pumkin was grown here on Vancouver Island (Port Alberni) this year. It weighs 1,536 pounds and was grown out of seeds developed by Howard Dill of Nova Scotia. … But all pumpkins are loveable, don’t you think!!!
