Relationship Advice

There are many “firsts” in relationships.
There is the first date, which is sometimes followed by a first kiss. There is a first fight. There is the first dinner with the other’s parents. There is the first anniversary. There is the first time you move in together.
However, I have always maintained that a relationship isn’t really solidified until you’ve reached that one special “first”: the first time that–together–you stay up until 2:00am chasing a bat out of your house using brooms, Rubbermaid containers, and an air compressor.
Now that’s true love.

OMG. I did that in 1996, when I was still in university.

When you have time, set the front page to pull the latest blog entry, so that I can get here with fewer clicks. ;-)

My intuition is: poor you, and poor bat. This would be so grim; feeling sorry for the bat, and yet desperately wanting him out of your lives, never to be seen again!!

hahahaha that’s the funniest thing I have ever heard. I can just picture it. Cam with the compressor ( blowing air at the bat ), you with the broom and containers trying to smack it, all the while you are both screaming like girls. I love it. :)

Thank you for opening that door into your journey of a lifetime. We wait for each installment and laugh with you, commiserate with you and pat you on your back for your determination and humour as you tackle this major project!
Just wanted you to know that Ryan and Alison also had the bat experience. They were cleaning out the grandparents house before moving in. Upstairs in the bedroom there was a bat. So Ryan, armed with a blanket, broom and yes, a rubbermaid tote went with his dad to get the little thing out. Although I stayed downstairs and didn’t see what happened, they shortly emerged and set that bat outside. I think it must be a rite of passage for your generation of homeowners!

What is it about bats? We had one in our house within a month of moving in too – it got swatted out of the air (yes, believe it or not!) by one of our cats, and then was picked gingerly up by my husband and carried quickly outside to release… all this while I was sitting on the bed with my book on my head feeling very stupid! :)
