Feeling Carefree
Posted on 17. May, 2009 by Laura-Jane - Whimfield in Inspirations
Feeling carefree is something I am striving for. I want to stretch out, open my mind, and feel as carefree as a cat on warm grass.
Instead I feel that there are brambles and things never quite fit.
But in life there are always hurdles, and it’s how we guide ourselves through them that is important.
The only way to feeling carefree is making your way through the brambles, which leads you out to the other side.
If you turn back when you hit the hard part you’ll never get there.

Ah, yes… wonderful words of wisdom. Trouble is (brambles aside), some would keep on going round and round the same old mountain. The thought of that alone makes me dizzy. Hopefully not because I’ve being going round in circles. Heaven forbid!
You’re kitty photo looks so much like my Beans. Funny, that… as I just posted photos of him and then came here.

Hi L-J
Good to see you posting again! That means that there is still movement, where there is movement there is life and where there is life there is hope!
Sometimes life’s maze can get you down with wrong turns and the odd dead end. To persist is the key, one foot in front of the other. (baby steps) Moving forward two steps and back only one is still forward motion. It’s when we take only one step forward and get pushed back two that we really need to reevaluate life’s plan.
I know that it is an old cliché but as they say “it is always darkest just before the dawn”
With that dawn can come the most glorious beautiful day. Drying the dew and warming the grass for the cat to stretch on. Later it can provide a warm sunny spot of beautiful afternoon sun for said cat to curl up for a cat nap.
As the song says: “Life’s a dance, you learn as you go, sometimes you lead and sometimes you follow.”
Here is an interesting take on that theme. We may not agree with everything that she has to say on the matter but, she does give an interesting perspective on how we view life.

That’s the wisdom! Don’t fear the brambles, or what could be on the other side. Ironic that you wrote this post because I’ve just made a huge stride towards letting go of some fear. My plans have changed! My landlords offered a great deal on rent if I wanted to stay longer, so I’m going to stay in quebec until spring of 2010, then get myself an RV and travel across Canada before I settle down on the island. Neat huh? Just me and the pugs on a 5 month road trip! Yeehaw!

The brambles are where the birds feel carefree though!

It’s nice to have time in one’s twenties to ponder the complexities of life and just be able to BE. Better to do it now, then figure it out in your 40s or 50s and wonder what you did with your mis-spent youth.
I love your posts, they show that you have invested time to think and what a luxury that is in these times.

Laura-Jane,
Finding the grass is the hurdle. Make it the major hurdle and the other hurdles will seem smaller.
Go lie on the grass. It’s worthwhile. It’s important. It’s just as meaningful as all the other hurdles. And it will deliver tremendous benefits.
