Do animals worry like we do, or do they just live in the moment?
Looking at this calm face and expression, I find it hard to believe that animals live anywhere other than in the moment.
Does this guy worry about mistakes, futures, family, love, finances, time-management, responsibilities and all the other topics that irk us all from time to time?
Or do you think he just stands there thinking, “Here I am. This is me. Who are you? Let’s stare at one another.”
When this cow looks at me, he’s giving me his full attention. There are no distractions. It’s a totally authentic moment.
He’s not thinking of a thousand things that need to be done. He’s not thinking about all the things he should be doing. He’s just taking me in with all his attention.
I need to create more moments like this in my life. These days I’m doing too much and not giving anyone cow-intensity attention.
My name is Laura-Jane, and staring into the eyes of a cow changed my life.

Staring into a cows eyes can do that to a person :-) Miss you! xo <3
cow intensity attention!
Great line!
Great post! Sometimes I wonder just how many moments I miss waiting for the next one.
Absolutely…take time to smell the roses (or the manure), to have your hour in the sun.

Animals do worry. Picture your average dog (or our cats) thinking: “Will I get some of that food? Will I? Will I?” But even that worry is all in the moment :)
Love it. Indeed, it is pretty life-changing when you are looking into those heavily lashed brown eyes!
Blessings,
Lacy
P.S. I have a Nikon D90 with love from Josh. I shall love him forever.
Hi L-J
Have you ever wondered about cows? (obviously you have)

I was reading a book recently called “A Circle of Quiet” by Madeleine L’Engle. She talks about ontology, the study of Is-ness. Of Being. I think this cow is stuck in the moment, in the now, The cow Is.
I am never where I am. I think about this too. Thank you for sharing. The search for “is” is now shared.
I would say some cow intensity attention is in order for Cams birthday-Sunday!! Have a great Birthday Cam!! Miss you.
My personal trainer introduced me to mindfulness. It’s really not all that far from where you are if you’re exercising effectively. But I’m trying to be mindful more often. Sometimes I have to schedule the time, though, so I’m not sure that counts!
i love cows (especially “baby moos”!!). but when i was little, when getting into a “stare-down” with one, i was down right frightened. although i would like to be much less worried with life’s worries so i agree with you on that, i would not want to be a cow.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAM!!!!
Happy Birthday Cam!!! Hope you had a lovely day!
PS I love cow-ness too! Spring hasn’t really arrived unless I’ve seen a cow, and hopefully calves. Staring beteen me and a cow would be even better, though admittedly that hasn’t happened lately… I’ll have to seek that out.
I remember the soothing feeling when I arrived in the Isle of Man at Fenella and Michael’s 18th century farmhouse (the kitchen was a former barn decades ago – and still has a couple of huge black level stones higher than the rest of the floor which were part of the cow stalls (I think!!). Fenella’s table center decoration was a really old fine-china flower vase in the shape of a cow resting (all 4 legs tucked under) . This big cow vase was filled with columbines and other fairy flowers plucked from her garden beds just outside the door… I still covet that cow vase!
Where I work used to have cows…….on one occasion I was sent to the barns to help register tags for the cows…….I am from the city and usually do not hang out around cows LOL. When I first pulled up to the barn …..the entire herd (well 92 of them anyway) stopped what they were doing, turned and stared………..very unnerving……..one cow staring okay. Until one brave little cow in the back went Mooooooooooooooooo…..they all jumped so did I …. and I caught myself laughing at the whole situation. I opened the gate and walked through (not knowing if that was a smart thing to do or not) and the herd parted like the red sea for me to walk through………..still staring. Since then I’ve decided cows are very cool……….and very nosey……..one walked into the office where I was working just to look at me………cause I was new. They are very intelligent………and when you stop and think of it……….they are very calming to look at………..I miss the cows now that there gone. Not the smell just the look of them LOL.
Staring into my kids’ eyes did the same thing to me. It’s all about a lack of “the world”.
Well, that and cows do have awesome big eye lashes!
I think the consensus is that cows are lovely, babies are lovely, and anything stares at us with total attention warrants our attention! And probably animals do worry, too…
Loved your cow stories…!
