It’s Saturday. It’s contest day. I’m so busy my head might explode.
But enough about me.
You know lots about me already.
Now I want to know about you. And I’m giving away another $25 Chapters gift card to find out!
Today’s task? Leave a comment below telling a bit about who you are. And if you’re a blogger or website owner, please explain what your site is about and why we should read it. (Even if I already know you and read your blog, feel free to write about your blog for a first-time audience. Because other readers might want to check you out!) If you’re not a blogger, just tell me about you!
As mentioned, the winner will get a $25 Chapters gift card, plus I’ll write a post about you, too! Winner will be chosen randomly. Be sure to come back next Saturday to find out who won!
Your Friend,
Busy Laura-Jane on the Farm who, Contrary to Photo Above, WAS SHOVELING THICK WET SNOW TODAY
PS: Leave a comment below. About Yourself. Win a Chapter’s gift card! Easy as pie! Mmm. Pie. Maybe, if you left a comment below, you’d win. Then, you could trade your Chapter’s gift card on the black market for some pie. Preferably pumpkin pie. Or raspberry-apple pie. Mmm. Pie. Goodbye!

I’m 44 and was born and lived in Alaska all my life ( Well for 3 years we lived on a sailboat) I had a very good paying job for over 21 years but I was becoming a mean, angry, and depressed person as I was VERY unhappy with my job, but I was making good money. So I had to do something and I knew if I stayed in Alaska I would also stay at the same job. So I sold all that I had and moved to WI! I lived in Anchorage Ak pop over 250 thou and moved to a rural WI. The town I’m near is 5 miles away pop 317! I am much happier but miss my family is AK. Thats why I started to blog. Thinking that it would be a way to keep in touch, it is, but I dont get the phone calls like I used to as “they” all feel like they know whats going on with me, but I dont know whats going on with them. I am going to get goats and chickens come spring and try my hand at being a small time hobby farmer! I’m going to try and make raw goat milk soap and see if I can make a part time living with that! I have a dream job. I work at a library, part time. Big drop in pay but I get up happy each day, so it’s worth it.
I’m 26 and wish I lived in Alaska like Krissy did !! OK I’m not sure how I would handle winters there though, but summers are nice!! My honeymoon was a 15 day road trip around Alaska with only 3 showers and 2 curious grizzlies.
I teach high school math, and enjoy anything “country” !! farms, gardens, trucks, mud, tractors, barns (especially love barns), land (wish i owned more), etc!!! I’ve lived on the same street my whole life, but in three different houses. Also living on this street include my mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, aunt, and uncle.
I am rather new to blogging and enjoy seeing what random people I stumble across in the blog world. Like you!!
Probably the best definition of me I could give was in a post I did earlier this month. http://thisdmnhouse.blogspot.com/2008/11/and-i-approve-this-message.html
It talks an awful lot about who I am and what I do.
My blog? Well, its a fluke really. It started out as a b*tch session directed at a flooring company when I took on laminate for the first time about 18 months ago. Since then, it’s become more or less a diary of all the things going on at my house, dominated by the many projects under way.
Hopefully, it gives some ideas, serves as a cautionary tale on a few topics, and shows what a hard head, a small budget and a few tools can accomplish. :-) And if it makes you laugh along the way? Mission accomplished.
I am the granddaughter of PEI potatoe farmers. We live in Ontario. My mother still has the original homestead that she maintains for us to visit during the summer. I came to the blog while searching for the toothbrush rug instructions. The rug is still in the works and a lot of fun to make. Currently I am off work recovering from a car accident and read your blog religiously. Love the pictures. Every pictures says a thousand words!
I am 33 years old, born in India, grew up in rural southern Africa, then lived in England for a while, and now live in Toronto. I am a traveller, a dreamer and a get-things-done-er. I am a writer, a wife, a vegetable gardener and a smiler. I work in television, always aiming to make shows that prompt thought and emotional reaction. I walk everywhere.
My husband is from PEI, and we dream of moving there one day. We have a plan to build a green and self-sustaining home, growing food in a geothermal greenhouse, and using wind or solar energy where possible.
While searching for information about geothermal energy a few months ago, I followed a link from island energy and ended up at Whimfield. I read every post “from the beginning” and now I follow. I felt so glad to hear that your wood stove is keeping you warm. Your posts are warming me!
Me
There is an Island girl, Amber’s her name,
The countryside of PEI is where from she came..
She writes cheesy poems to make her friends smile
A groan, or a giggle, it’s all still worthwhile…
She loves the thrill of a good competition
The Saturday blog contest, she is on a big mission
Amber is a sister, daughter, niece and spouse.
An educated woman who owns her own house.
She closely follows daily current events..
She always has to weigh in with her two cents..
Though, often opinionated and stubborn as can be
As well as thinks she is a wonderful poet, as you can see..
She currently works 9 to 5 in the daily grind
And some day dreams of leaving it all behind!
For a life much more creative, to spread her wings
She is looking forward to the future and whatever it brings!
So here, dear Whimfield is my entry for you!
Best of luck to all other entries and bloggers too!
Great question, Laura-Jane.
(Short answer) Who am I? A servant, learner, and worshipper.
(Short answer) What is my blog (www.felipebeach.wordpress.com) about? Finding peace and joy through returning our lives to the way they were meant to be lived, and doing it together.
(Less-short answer) Who am I? A son, brother, uncle, friend, roommate, neighbor, paraeducator for special-needs kids, recent cancer survivor, former (maybe future) youth pastor, former (maybe future) missionary, musician, occasional writer, even less-occasional painter, very bad swimmer, excellent trip packer, great first date, and forgiven Child of God.
(Less-short answer) What is my blog (www.felipebeach.wordpress.com) about? I named it after my favorite place on Earth: a secluded beach I found high in the Canadian Rockies. I tell stories, provide updates on recent health issues, and discuss life, love, faith, and corn dogs.
That is all.
Very interesting people. Myself I am a wife, mother, daughter and friend. I am hard working at my job. The rest Cam & Laura-Jane know or do they?
I am in between states of shadows still seeking self
Hi,
I’m Corey. Nice to meet you. I am an engineer with a love for photography and renovations. With renovations the camera gear hasn’t been picked in a while, though I do look forward to the day when renovations are done and I can refocus on my hobby. I love traveling, creating things, and learning about new things.
My website is balitmorerowhouse.blogspot.com. It is a home renovation blog where the girlfriend and I renovate a two bedroom house in the city while living in the dust and debris, along with our cute puppy wally. The blog is half design and the other half more technical building discussion.
40 something autistic woman, wife, mother of 4 (2 autistic), daughter, sister, in-law….. Army brat, fell in love with an Islander in ‘79, traveled from here to Tofino and back (mostly hitchhiking…. I took a solo trip to San Francisco while we were out there) and hand built (no power tools or chain saw involved) a little cabin in the woods, beyond the power lines, in the middle of the Island, upon our return. Homesteaded there until, 2 children later, we outgrew our little cabin and bought a big ol’ 100 year old farm house a little north and east of the cabin’s location. I blog with the most autistic of my kids on his Runman blog at http://therunman.blogspot.com/. Mostly a running blog (he’s a distance runner) we touch on autism from time to time and sometimes, but not often, other stuff.
You are who I was sort of. Maybe I am who you’ll be sort of. As different as we are, we have much in common.
I was born in PEI, moved to Hamilton, Ont when I was 2 and moved back here 5 years ago, with husband and three children. Somehow I’m still from away. We moved here 6 days before Christmas to a 130 year old Farmhouse and have been renovating it now for 5 years. We’ve learned alot about becoming self sufficant since moving here…….we now know where water comes from, how to grow a garden and store it for the winter. How to do siding…….tons of home renovations…….and how to live without power and water and still eat. LOL. I’m at a crossroads in my life………..though it is beautiful here and peaceful…….I miss home and friends……..do I want to get back into the hustle and bustle of city ………. Yes……..does my husband …….. No……I miss natural gas…….wood stove is okay but I think I prefer constant heat…….I’m not a camper, don’t like bugs or mud……..husband loves it and I think we own more than our fair share of all of them. I miss take out and sidewalks but I do treasure long walks on the beach and going out in the fishing boat……like I said crossroads……..who ever said with age comes wisdom……..I’ve got the age…….can’t seem to find the wisdom LOL.
Hi, I’m Tammy [waves] and I’m originally from the Yukon. I came to Calgary to get my Bachelor of Science Anthropology (Primatology). I named my son Darwin after the famous naturalist Charles Darwin and hope to travel to the Galapagos and Darwin, Austrailia with him in a few years.
I am a 37 year old mother of a nearly 21 year old daughter, wife of almost 20 years and disabled RN. I worked with mentally challenged adults with behaviors disorders or a mental illness for almost 10 years, before a medical illness put me off work in 2004. I am trying hard to get better but nothing seems to work but no use in b*tching about it because that doesn’t help so I try to stay positive about the whole thing. My family is highly supportive which helps immensely. I love my life as it stands now so I guess I can’t ask for anything more. Thanks for reading!
I am a 31 year old, who is married and I live and have grown up in Scarborough, Ontario. I have been suffering mulitiple illnesses and hospitalizations over the past 3 years, so I have unfortuanetely been unable to work to to my disability. But I have a very loving, supportive and caring husband and family who help me and keep me strong and maintain positivity as much as they possibly can. Despite my ongoing illnesses, I maintain a positive outlook on life in general, and hae faith and hopes of a wonderful future ahead, as well as big dreams. I have no children as of yet, but hopefully will one day in the future when I am “HOPEFULLY” feeling better. I have a wonderful 3 year old Parrot (Alexandrine Parakeet) named Franklin, who is like my lil’ feathered child, and has kept me comapny throughout all this. He is very talkative, and very loved and spoiled (Of course!!!.lol….). He makes me smile each and every day, and I always look forward to spending lots of time with him, he has been great company for me. Hopefully I can start travelling one day again with my hubby, as I love to travel as well, love to read, and spend time with loved ones. :)
I’m 40 and making my way through a bit of a mid-life crisis. :) Was born in the UK and moved to Winnipeg when I was 5 years old. Grew up there but discovered Vancouver towards the end of my university days. Moved here 2 days after my last exam and have never looked back. A chance to move to Australia is starting to materialize though so who knows whether I may be in for another passport one day!!
I am 24 and a student, I’m doing master’s degree in Library and Information Studies and would love to be a librarian someday. I love books, which is probably the worst reason to be a librarian, but thankfully there are other reasons, too, including a love of readers and reading and a commitment to customer service. I grew up in a really small town, population 900 people, and then moved to Toronto, which was a great shock. Now I live in Alberta, but I really miss my friends and family. This past summer I had my gallbladder removed, and while it was painful, it was also the best diet I’ve ever had, and lost over 75 pounds. And that’s me!
I’m also very busy. I didn’t think I’d respond to this question, but as I was working late into the night I suddenly stopped.
I bought a new calendar today – black and white photography of Paris in 1940s & 50s. I had to hang it up early, just to admire the cover shot for the next month. I felt my blood pressure lower and my work-induced stress fade as I entered the calm of the tree-lined boulevard where a capped man in a suit hunched over a glass of wine with a dog relaxing by his feet. And then, I scooped up the cardboard insert and started writing this list of things that I love right now. So, in the spirit of living in the moment, I’ll share an abridged version here because it’s who I am right now.
black and white Paris. Art Nouveau. The Edwardian Lady: The Story of Edith Holden. incense and essential oils. French Films. flower blossom loose leaf tea. picking flowers. candlelit baths. scarves, a bracelet and arm-warmers. baking bread. Bikram yoga. Rembrandt’s nudes. cherry jam. insightful workshops. snuggling in with a good book. energy and touch. Lady Grey tea. leafless tree silhouettes against the night sky.
(don’t know if it’s past the contest time…but here goes…)
I’m Ellen and I just turned 31. I’ve been married for 2.5 years to a Canadian (I’m an American from NYC, the Bronx..) I love ballroom dancing and that is how I met my husband – he was my dance partner, a Canadian basketball playing tall handsome guy who fit my personality, energy and dreams in life. Coming from NYC, I went to college in upstate NY for psychology after wanting to be a veterinarian all my life (my 1st class in bio changed that forever!) and now I own my own wedding consulting business in Ontario. After graduation, I lived in Boston and then moved to Toronto (a long immigration story should be here but I will spare the details!!! but pretty much my husband was denied back into the US so I went back w/o him for 3 months to sell stuff, pack up remaining and move north! After a year, we moved to Niagara Falls — even though I always wanted to move to PEI. (Very inspired by Anne of Green Gables at an early age!).
So I work from home in my wedding business and I am also pregnant with our first child — which we find out the gender today (on American Thanksgiving, no less!). I still love dancing (though its different now with a 20lb bump), love cooking and decorating, planning parties, reading, meeting people and crafty things! I also love travelling and would love to do some more — particularly to Australia!
Our baby blog is http://www.when1plus1makesthree.wordpress.com I think you should read it bc apparently not only have I become a huge source of entertainment (to my husband and family) with my range of quick changing emotions and the “situations” I find myself…..but it’s our first child and so my perspective (I believe) is fresh, innocent and oh so looking for advice —- pls comment/post at any time!!

Hey
I’m recovering from a minor surgery but it’s taught me a lesson: It’s actually true what you hear – your health is the most important thing.
Can’t wait to go surfing!!!!!!!!!!
Hello,
I am a high school teacher of English and History in Delta BC. I am 31, married and have a beautiful 2 year old daughter. I too miss my family who live in the Okanagan Valley…Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas :)
I am 32 years old, I work a job that requires me to be on call 24 hours a day 7 days a week and 365 days a year. The job makes life a bit stressful and having children one who is age 4 and expecting another one the beginning of march. Life is a bit busy with all of these things going on so I don’t get a chance to do this very often but when I can it is a great stress releiver. In my spare time what little I have I enjoy the outdoors and have introduced my son to new things such as hockey and skiing. We live in a small city in southern alberta, my wife is from northern Ontario. This is a great contest you have and I hope to win good luck to everyone!!
Hello!!
I’m currently a student undertaking a practicum at a hospital in Alberta, Canada. I hope to complete my program in a few months and look forward to taking a trip to Europe if possible. I balance my practicum with a part time job as well…so I’m usually very busy and on the move. When I do have extra time, I love to read, listen to music, and enjoy challenging myself w/ brain teasers;)
Happy holidays everyone!!!
