Contest: What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?
Posted on 04. Oct, 2008 by Laura-Jane - Whimfield in Contests
Last week, you shared your goals and dreams in our “I Had a Dream, I Dreamed it for You June” contest.
I shared my aspiration of becoming a writer. And you shared your aspirations of tennis stardom, and of becoming pony-riding acrobats, marathon runners, full-time RVers, and fashion designers. You dreamed of writing historical novels, becoming meteorologists, achieving higher education, baking bread, and achieving volleyball greatness.
I love the variety in the highlights above. Our goals vary from the very practical to the very magical, which doesn’t surprise me one bit. There’s a place for both the practical and the magical in our lives.
Thanks for taking the time to enter the contest, lovely people!
We randomly selected the winner, which turned out to be Kazari, a very worthwhile candidate!
In fact, I did some snooping on Kazari, and I found out that she is all about making goals a reality:
So I did something scary.
I arranged an appointment with my manager’s manager. He’s a busy guy, but he oversees about 12 projects like the one I work on. I told him how much I enjoy working here, what a great organisation it is. He told me how much he appreciated my work, and how well regarded I was in my role (I know it was just ego stroking, but it’s still good to hear it). I told him I didn’t want to leave, but I was ready to take on something new. He freaked out a bit, asked if my leaving was imminent. I said no, I was only beginning to look, but thought I should see what was available internally first. (I mentally crossed my fingers and hoped I wasn’t committing career suicide).
This girl’s got gumption. And that’s what it takes to turn a dream into reality.
Kazari, send me an email with your mailing address, so that I can send you a Whimfield love package, which will include a copy of Carol Little’s novel, Hide Your Life Away.
I love these contests. They make me happy. Come back next Saturday for another contest, during which we will be giving away another Chapters gift card.
In the mean time, visit Kazari and show her a little blog-growing love.
